Underground conveyor chutes take a beating. High velocity material, tight geometry, impact zones that eat through standard liners faster than the maintenance schedule allows. The wrong liner in the wrong spot does not just wear out, it creates unplanned downtime at the worst possible time.
Raptor has been engineering chute liner solutions for underground and fixed plant applications across North America and Latin America for over two decades. Here is how we approach it.
Matching the liner to the application
Not every chute wear problem is the same, and not every material is the solution. Raptor works with a full range of liner options depending on what the chute is doing and what is moving through it.
For high abrasion with moderate impact, RaptorPlate® CCO plate is the workhorse. With carbide content in excess of 60% in a steel matrix and micro-hardness exceeding 1500 BHN, RaptorPlate® is engineered for high abrasion chute applications where standard AR plate falls short. We machine countersunk holes, stud weld, or use machined inserts depending on how the liner needs to attach. Lifting eyes can be added for safe handling in tight underground spaces.
For high impact applications where you also need a solid weld base, Defender® manganese wear blocks are the call. Chocky bars, wear blocks, octagons are all manufactured in-house at our Barrie facility, and the layout of the blocks matters as much as the material. A good block pattern creates packing between pieces, protects only the high wear zones, and stretches the overall wear system life.
Where access is a constraint and change-out time is money, MagnaWear® magnetic liner solutions eliminate the need for welding or bolting entirely. Best suited for abrasion-only applications with finer materials where impact is not a factor, MagnaWear® installs and removes with a crowbar. Custom designs available for non-standard chute geometry.
For the most demanding applications, bi-metallic wear blocks combine impact resistance with abrasion resistance in a two-piece casting with stronger block integrity. These are typically used where a single material is not enough.
Custom fit matters underground
Underground chutes rarely conform to a standard dimension. Raptor uses in-house laser scanning and CMM to capture exact geometry before fabricating liner assemblies. The liner arrives ready to install, not requiring on-site modification. Assemblies are fully fabricated at our CISC locations and can be installed by Raptor or local distributors.
The result
Fewer change-outs. Less unplanned downtime. A liner system engineered for the application rather than pulled off the shelf and made to fit.
If you are dealing with a high impact nickel ore, copper ore, iron ore, or hard rock underground application and standard liners are not cutting it, talk to us. We have supplied chute liner solutions to underground mines across Canada, the United States, Peru, and Brazil.
For underground and fixed plant wear solutions in Eastern Canada, our Barrie, Ontario CISC specializes in chute and crusher liner applications and ships custom liner assemblies worldwide. Reach us at raptor@raptormining.com and we will connect you with the right person.
