Bucket Lip Shrouds for Mining Excavators

The lip is the most expensive edge on an excavator bucket to lose. It takes impact and abrasion on every pass, and once it wears, the fix is a rebuild or a new bucket. Lip shrouds exist so that never has to happen.

A bucket lip shroud sits over the lip between the teeth and takes the wear in its place. When the shroud is done, you swap the shroud and the bucket goes back to work. The right lip shroud keeps the bucket in service longer and keeps rebuilds off the maintenance schedule.

What lip shrouds do

Lip shrouds are sacrificial wear parts for the front edge of an excavator bucket. They sit between the material and the lip itself, so the grinding and the impact land on a replaceable part instead of the bucket structure.

The lip is structural. The shroud is a consumable. That trade is the whole point.

The HEX design

Raptor HEX Lip Shrouds use a hexagonal profile. The shape is designed to sit stably on the bucket lip and spread impact load across the face of the shroud, so the wear comes on evenly instead of concentrating in one spot.

HEX Lip Shrouds are designed for hydraulic excavator buckets with a lip bevel of 22.5 degrees or 35 degrees, which covers the bucket configurations most operations are running.

Where they fit

HEX Lip Shrouds are designed for hydraulic excavators working in mining and heavy construction. They earn their keep fastest in hard rock, where impact loads are high, and in abrasive ore that chews through unprotected steel. Any operation running long shifts, where a bucket in the shop means production stops, gets the most out of protecting the lip before it wears.

If your excavators are digging tough material, lip shrouds belong in your wear parts plan. Keeping the lip intact is how a crew gets to GSD® without the bucket sitting in the shop.

Protect the rest of the bucket

Lip shrouds cover the leading edge. The back corners need their own protection, and that is where Raptor heel shrouds come in. The floor and side walls wear from material sliding across them, and wear resistant CCO RaptorPlate® liner kits handle that job.
