Ground Engaging Tools (GET) — A Buyer's Guide for Mining Operations

Ground engaging tools, commonly referred to as GET, are the wear components that make direct contact with the ground, rock, and material during digging operations. They are among the highest wear items on any mining machine and a critical factor in bucket performance, productivity, and operating cost.

Selecting the right GET for your equipment and application isn't just about fit. It's about wear life, replacement frequency, and the total cost of keeping your machines in the ground and productive. Raptor supplies a full range of GET solutions for mining operations globally, built to perform in the toughest conditions and stocked locally to keep your operation moving.

What Are Ground Engaging Tools?

GET is the collective term for the wear parts attached to the working edge of a bucket or digging implement. They include teeth, adapters, lip shrouds, heel shrouds, and related components that protect the bucket structure and improve digging efficiency.

Each component plays a specific role. Teeth and adapters do the cutting and penetrating work at the front of the bucket. Shrouds and savers protect the structural edges, lips, heels, and corners, from the abrasion and impact that would otherwise wear through the bucket itself.

Together, a well-specified GET package significantly extends bucket life, reduces structural maintenance, and lowers the total cost of operation.

Lip Shrouds and Lip Savers

Lip shrouds and lip savers protect the front cutting edge of the bucket from abrasion and impact wear. Raptor lip savers can be trimmed and cut to spec for special bucket configurations, including applications that require extra coverage between adapters to reduce scalloping.

For excavator buckets, Raptor's HEX Lip Shrouds offer a hexagonal profile that provides a more stable fit and more even wear distribution compared to standard shroud designs.

Heel Shrouds and Heel Savers

The heel and corner sections of a bucket are high-impact wear zones that take punishment on every digging cycle. Raptor heel savers are available in a range of sizes starting at 30 lbs and going up to 166 lbs for standard excavator and loader buckets, with larger options available for dragline buckets.

As an example of real-world application, a Komatsu PC1250 bucket running 105 lbs Raptor heel savers and Raptor lip savers demonstrates the kind of complete GET coverage that maximises bucket life in demanding conditions.

Stocked Locally, Ready to Ship

All Raptor CISC locations carry GET stock in Edmonton, Barrie, Salt Lake City, Arequipa, and Belo Horizonte. That means less waiting and less downtime for operations across North America and Latin America.

Why Raptor

Raptor Mining Products has been designing and supplying high-performance wear parts and GET solutions to mining operations globally since 2004. With heavy-duty, high-performance alloys and locally stocked inventory, Raptor is built to meet customer expectations in the field, not just on paper.
